When planning a trip or vacation, the main expense generally is the airfare. It is possible to get cheap airline tickets though it is not always available. Here are some guidelines on how to get the best fare when you wish to take a vacation to your favorite tourist destination.Look for “round the world” tickets, which are great options, as they are decidedly the cheapest option. You can visit several cities at a lower cost than if you were to visit one big city. People, who wish to see several cities, should opt for these types of tickets, as you can get to see nearly 10 cities in both Northern Africa and Europe for just $ 1,200 US. Airtreks.com offers great deals for people who like to travel and wish to plan a great trip in their lifetime.

If you are looking for cheap deals, try visiting some travel sites that offer discount. It is possible to select great travel agencies from sites, such as Orbitz, Travelocity and Expedia online and get the best deals. You can even name your own price with Priceline.

Several travel companies are able to offer special cheap fares to students, as they use the special discounts offered to vendors and students, to bring down the cost. Students use their IDs to avail of these cheap flights and can get one with even an expired ID. However, if you have crossed the expiry date on the ID, you may run into problems. Check out Student Universe which is a travel website that offers discounted fares on flights, hotels and bus and train tickets and also offers you the facility of picking up a rented car at a low price. The other travel website you can check out is STA, where you get great discounts on airfares, accommodation, travel packages and bus/train tickets.

Apart from checking the travel sites that offer discount in your own country, you could also look for great discounts from websites, where you plan to visit. Travel companies, such as Travelocity and Expedia have many websites in different countries. If you are planning to visit Europe, you may be pleasantly surprised to find that travel sites such as Spanish eDReams and British Octopus offer better discounted rates than some of the popular sites in the US. Look for different airlines on websites that offer flights to various countries for the best cheap airline deals.

Look for low-cost airlines as they offer great discounted fares to various locations. It is essential to go directly to their sites to find out their rates. If you go through a travel website you may not be able to find these fares. Aggregator websites, such as Kayak, may not be able to offer these cheap deals.

Another way of travelling less expensively is to select a secondary airport to land in rather than their larger counterparts. Many of the air carriers fly out of small airports as it is less expensive. However you should be aware that they normally land in airports that are not too close to big cities. You may spend more on a cab or a rented car that would not be worth the expense. Try to look for options, such as getting into the city by train, or bus as this may work out to your advantage.

Subscribing to newsletters from different websites and airlines is another great way of ensuring that you are updated on the latest travel deals. You will be informed of specials and discounts offered from the airlines. You may get email that gives you information on the travel destination that you are interested in reaching and you could pick up a cheap deal to that particular place.
